Chlamydia, Chlamydia trachomatis
Chlamydia trachomatis RNA, TMA, Urogenital - C. trachomatis infections are the leading cause of sexually transmitted diseases. C. trachomatis is known to cause cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), epididymitis and proctitis.
It is caused by a bacterium that exists in vaginal secretions and semen.It can be spread by vaginal, oral, or anal sex without a condom or latex/polyurethane barrier. Pregnant women can pass it on to their babies during delivery.
In fact, about 90 percent of women and 70 percent of men with the STI have no symptoms. But chlamydia can still cause health problems later.Chlamydia can cause a vaginal discharge. It may resemble pus or mucus.
Chlamydia trachomatis is treated with antibiotics.Having chlamydia or having been treated for it in the past doesn't prevent you from getting it again.
Preferred test for detecting Chlamydia trachomatis in variety of specimens. This test does not include confirmation of positive results by an alternative nucleic acid target.
